Teaching Philosophy
I work very hard to create inclusive and immersive classroom cultures where diverse students feel comfortable to respond to questions without fear of judgment or reproach. I tend to keep an informal classroom because I find if I am more relaxed, then so are students. I find most students thrive in this atmosphere and can allow themselves to do more creative thinking than they might otherwise.

Creativity is important to me and something I require of my students. We are all creative. By creating creative assignments, students are free to use skills they might not otherwise use in a literature classroom. I am always pleased at the relief creative students feel at this. There are not enough opportunities to meet these students needs despite all of the progress made in the recognition that there are different styles or learners and learning. On the other hand, some students feel challenged and afraid of creative assignments. However, when they have accomplished the task at hand, they tend to feel proud that they could in fact do something which they had previously doubted they could do.
